Bordering By the Seashore

Hi everyone, today's card has been inspired by Less is More this week, which has a sketch challenge, that is "simplicity itself, so to add a little constraint, we ask that the card stays in this orientation ie that the band remains in the horizontal plane, in the lower part of the card and that it takes up no more than 1/3rd of the height of the cardbase".

 This is my card:

As my blog header would suggest I love the coast and the By the Seashore stamp set is one that really appeals to me. I first masked out the area and then stamped the sand dollar in Chocolate Chip, masked it and stamped the star fish.in More Mustard and then masked it before brayering the sand in More Mustard and the sea in Marina Mist. The effect on the sea was created by rolling the brayer on creased up paper. I added a few highlights on the sand using More Mustard and spritzed some Chocolate Chip to give the effect of pebbles. Here is a close up:

The sentiment is a sneak peak from the new Spring/Summer catalogue available from 1st February. The border has been scored top and bottom using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.

I also designed a card using the popular  Bloomin' Marvelous stamp set available during Sale-a-bration, running between 22nd January to 22nd March 2013:

The humming bird is stamped in Midnight Muse, the flowers in Raspberry Ripple and the leaves in Gumball Green. The sentiment is also stamped in Midnight Muse. Here's a close up:

Here's what I used for these cards from Stampin' Up!

Stamps: By the  Seashore, Bloomin' Marvelous
Ink: More Mustard, Marina Mist, Chocolate Chip, Midnight Muse, Raspberry Ripple, Gumball Green
Card: Whisper White
Other: Early Espresso Marker, Spritzer tool, Simply Scored Scoring Tool

Friends Flock Together

Here is a quick and easy card I made based on the challenge at Less is More this week of Friends.

I've used the Stampin' Up! stamp sets My Friend and Flock Together, which conjures up friendship by its name, to create this smaller 4" x 4" card. The base card is in Midnight Muse and the images have been stamped in the same colour, on to Whisper White card. The birds have been coloured in using Stampin' Markers in Bashful Blue and Baja Breeze. The frame was drawn free hand using the Baja Breeze Marker.

Here is a close up of the stamped images:

Both sets of stamps have some lovely images, that can be used for all occasions.

To make this card you will need from Stampin' Up!:

Stamps: My Friend, Flock Together
Card: Midnight Muse, Whisper White
Ink: Midnight Muse
Other: Stampin' Markers in Bashful Blue, Baja Breeze

Everything Eleanor is Bloomin' Marvellous

Hi everyone. As I write this post there is a lot of snow outside, and it is cold. All the more reason to stay inside and craft! Today I have a card to show you that combines two stamp sets.

This card uses some of the stamps from Everything Eleanor, a really lovely set, with a sneak peek of some of Bloomin' Marvellous. The idea was from a card I made with my up-liner quite a while ago. I've made the base from Perfect Plum card, which has been stamped with the flourish from Everything Eleanor, in Perfect Plum ink. I've then layered Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette and Very Vanilla card. The Very Vanilla has been stamped with two more stamps from Everything Eleanor in Crumb Cake and Perfect Plum, using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to ensure they are in the right position. Here is a close up of the centre piece:

I punched a 1-3/4" scalloped circle from Pink Pirouette Card. On a piece of Very Vanilla I've stamped the flower from Bloomin' Marvellous in Pink Pirouette, and then over stamped it with one of the sentiments from the same set, using my Stamp-a-ma-jig to help with placement. I then punched a 1-3/8" circle which sits perfectly within the scalloped circle. The finished piece was then mounted on to the card using dimensionals. I love this sentiment as it can be used for many occasions.

To make this card you will need:

Stamps: Stampin' Up! Everything Eleanor, Bloomin' Marvellous
Ink: Perfect Plum, Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette
Card: Perfect Plum, Crumb Cake, Pink Pirouette, Very Vanilla
Other: 1-3/4" Scallop Circle punch, 1-3/8" Circle punch, dimensionals

Summer Afternoon Sympathy Card

Here is the other sympathy card I mentioned in my post on Wednesday, using an image from Summer Afternoon, one of the Hostess stamp sets.

I thought the empty swing was a different way of showing loss.  Here is a close up of the image stamped on Watercolour paper:

I used a combination of Watercolour Wonder Crayons from the Neutrals, Subtles and Brights sets to paint the image.

A close up of the sentiment, stamped in Soft Suede and from the Love and Sympathy stamp set, also shows that I have rounded this corner of the card and the layers.

The insert in this card has been stamped with the flower image from the Confetti set.

Here's what you'll need to make this card:

Stamps: Stampin' Up! Summer Afternoon (Hostess set), Love and Sympathy, Confetti
Card: Watercolour card, Soft Suede, Naturals White and copy paper for the insert
Inks: Soft Suede, Tango Tangerine (flowers on insert)
Other: Watercolour Wonder Crayons in Neutrals, Subtles and Brights, Aqua Painter

Serene Silhouettes with a dash of colour

It's been some time since I entered any of the craft challenges, so I thought it was about time I did, and the challenge from Less is More is just a great one to get started with. Their challenge to kick the new year off is black and white with a splash of colour. Take a look at my interpretation:

This stamped image is from Serene Silhouettes, one of my favourite stamp sets, and I thought that one of the birds coloured red could be my dash of colour. The image has been coloured using Markers and is stamped onto Whisper White card, which has been double scored top and bottom.

The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Banners and has been cut using the Bitty Banners framelits. To complement the red bird this has been layered, using dimensionals, onto red Glitter Paper. You'll notice that I've rounded the bottom right hand corner of the Basic Black card to finish it off.

Here's what you'll need to make the card:

Stamps: Stampin' Up! Serene Silhouettes, Itty Bitty Banners
Card: Whisper White, Basic Black
Other: Basic Black and Real Red Markers, red Glimmer Paper, Bitty Banner Framelits, Dimensionalsmm Simply Scored Score Board to emboss the topper.

See you soon

Love and Sympathy

Unfortunately it was necessary for me to send a sympathy card on more than one occasion just  before Christmas. It's never easy to send such a card and as we approach Christmas I think it is even harder.

Stampin' Up! has a couple of stamp sets and sentiments that work well on sympathy cards and the Love and Sympathy set is a lovely example. This card uses the sentiments and flower that come as part of the set:

I used Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade markers to ink up the flower. The frame is drawn free hand in Lucky Limeade using the finest point of the marker. I punched two small holes either side of the stem and threaded White and Calypso Coral Bakers Twine.

The sentiment was stamped in Calypso Coral. I also used Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade on the insert too.

The floral image comes from the Flowering Flourishes set and was inked up using marker pens. Here is a close up of the verse stamped in Calypso Coral:

What you'll need to make this card:

Stamps: Stampin' Up! Love and Sympathy, Flowering Flourishes
Card: Very Vanilla, Ivory Confetti (retired) for the base, ivory paper for the insert  from my own stash
Ink: Calypso Coral
Other: Calypso Coral and Lucky Limeade markers, Calypso Coral Bakers Twine

I have another design for a sympathy card which I'll post separately.

See you soon
